New details have been released by investigators following a probe into the death of Hagerstown resident Kelvin Lashawn, 46, after he was taken into custody over the weekend.
According to investigators, at approximately 10:15 p.m. on Oct. 26, members of the Hagerstown Police Department executed a search warrant at a home in the 100 block of East Washington Street, where they found Lashawn outside who was handcuffed and placed into a cruiser.
While in the backseat of the police vehicle, he began vomiting, had difficulty breathing, and became unresponsive, they said. Lashawn was rushed to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The officers were wearing body cameras, and there is also dashboard cams that are being reviewed by investigators, officials noted.
On Thursday, Oct. 31, the Attorney General's Independent Investigations Division (IID) identified Capt. Tom Langston, a 27-year veteran of the department and Sgt. Steve Lucas, an 11-year vet as the officers involved.
The body-cam footage is expected to be released within a month.
